A Celebration of Life: Honoring Lady Philomina Mgbogoh Anazia

Today, the 7th of February, 2025, in the peaceful town of Ute Ogbeje, Delta State, the 94/95 alumni of St. Anthony’s College, Ubulu-Uku, came together in a remarkable display of unity and brotherhood to stand by one of their own, Mr. Joachim Anazia. It was not just a day of mourning; it was a day of remembrance, a day of celebration, and a day of gratitude as we honored the incredible life of his mother, Lady Philomina Mgbogoh Anazia (LSM).

Losing a loved one is never easy, but Lady Philomina’s story is one that should not be told with sadness alone. Her life was filled with love, wisdom, strength, and laughter—qualities that left a lasting impact on all who knew her. To her family, she was a devoted mother and a guiding light. To her community, she was a beacon of kindness and generosity. She lived a life worthy of celebration, and today, amidst our emotions, we chose to celebrate her.

As the sun shone brightly over Ute Ogbeje, Delta State, the air was filled with the murmur of heartfelt conversations, the warmth of shared memories, and the unshakable bond of friendship that brought us together. The presence of the St. Anthony’s College alumni was a testament to the strength of our brotherhood—one that goes beyond school walls and stretches across time. We were not just there to mourn; we were there to uplift, to comfort, and to show that no one walks alone in moments like these.

The ceremony itself was a moving tribute, blending solemn reflection with heartfelt celebration. Prayers were offered, songs of praise filled the air, and words of encouragement were shared. There was an undeniable spirit of resilience, the kind that Lady Philomina herself embodied throughout her life.

One by one, people spoke about the impact she had. They spoke of her unwavering faith, her generosity, and her ability to turn every challenge into an opportunity for growth. They shared stories of her wisdom—how she always had the right words at the right time—and her sense of humor, which could bring laughter even in the most serious moments. Her legacy was evident in the love that surrounded her, in the children she raised, and in the countless lives she touched.

Joachim, standing strong despite the weight of the moment, was not alone. He had his brothers by his side, his friends, his family, and an entire community that held him up in love and support. His gratitude was clear, and though his heart carried the ache of loss, it also carried immense pride—pride in the woman who raised him, pride in the people who came together to honor her, and pride in the legacy she left behind.

When the time came for the final farewell, it was not just tears that flowed—it was love, it was respect, and it was gratitude. Yes, there was sorrow, but there was also peace in knowing that Lady Philomina had lived a full, meaningful life. She had left behind a blueprint of kindness, resilience, and unwavering faith, one that would continue to inspire generations to come.

To Joachim and the entire Anazia family, we say: take heart. Your mother was a remarkable woman, and though she may no longer be here in person, her spirit remains alive in every lesson she taught, every smile she shared, and every life she touched.

To our fellow Anthonians who came from near and far to show their support, we say: this is what brotherhood looks like. This is what community means. We are stronger together, and today was a powerful reminder of that.

As we leave Ute Ogbeje, Delta State, let us not just carry grief—we should carry inspiration. Let us live with the same passion, kindness, and wisdom that Lady Philomina did. Let us cherish our families, support one another, and make every moment count.

Rest well, Lady Philomina Mgbogoh Anazia. Your legacy lives on, and your story will be told with joy and admiration for years to come.
